Which Cities Care Most About a Clean Car?

Every driver swears by their own version of a perfectly clean car, but a few cities treat a spotless finish like a competitive sport. To find out where that obsession runs deepest, Panda Hub ranked the 100 most populous US cities and 10 major Canadian cities by car-care search demand per capita.
We tracked 27 keywords across professional detailing, DIY cleaning, and emergency cleanups from May 2023 to May 2026. The results map out where drivers care most about their ride, and reveal a surprising split between the folks who grab a bucket and the folks who call in a pro. Whether you detail your weekend show car yourself or hand the keys to a specialist, here's how your city stacks up.
Key Takeaways
- America's clean-car capitals: Orlando, FL; Atlanta, GA; and Cleveland, OH, rank highest for car detailing, cleaning, ceramic coating, and interior care searches per capita.
- The cities least obsessed with a spotless ride: Laredo, TX; New York, NY; and Enterprise, NV, rank lowest for car-care search interest among the 100 largest US cities.
- Americans overwhelmingly leave car care to the professionals: 86% of car-care searches go to pro services, and only 11% to DIY.
- The US cities most likely to pay a pro are all cold-weather places, led by Saint Paul, MN, and Cleveland, OH (both at 92%). Top do-it-yourself cities are all warm, dry ones like Laredo and Lubbock, TX.
- Canada's clean-car capitals: Brampton, Toronto, and Mississauga, Ontario, rank highest for car detailing, cleaning, ceramic coating, and interior care searches per capita.
Where Clean-Car Obsession Runs Deepest
Geography turns out to be one of the strongest signals of how hard a city chases that just-detailed shine. From Sun Belt humidity to Rust Belt road salt, local conditions affect how often drivers go looking for a cleaner ride.

Florida and the Midwest dominate the leaderboard, but Orlando takes the crown as America's most clean-car-obsessed city. Atlanta and Cleveland round out the top 3 for car-care searches per capita.

The Great DIY-Versus-Pro Divide
The route a driver takes to a clean car often comes down to where they live. Climate tends to track with who reaches for a wash bucket and who reaches for the phone.

When it comes to getting the job done, Americans usually leave car care to the professionals. A full 86% of car-care searches go toward services like mobile detailing and ceramic coating, while just 11% cover at-home fixes such as cleaning interiors, removing pet hair, and tackling stains. Most drivers would rather trust an expert than spend their weekend elbow-deep in upholstery.
That preference is common in cold-weather cities, where salt, slush, and road grime make professional help feel less like a luxury and more like a necessity. Saint Paul and Cleveland top the pay-a-pro list, both at 92%.
Cities Most Likely to Pay a Pro, by Percentage of Car-Care Searches
- Saint Paul, MN: 92%
- Cleveland, OH: 92%
- Denver, CO: 91%
- Minneapolis, MN: 91%
- Milwaukee, WI: 90%
- Chicago, IL: 90%
- San Diego, CA: 89%
- Boston, MA: 89%
- Pittsburgh, PA: 89%
- Austin, TX: 89%
The DIY crowd tends to cluster in warm, dry parts of the country. Laredo leads the do-it-yourself pack at 30%, followed by Lubbock at 21%, and many in the top 10 skew toward sunny, low-humidity climates where a driveway wash is an easy weekend habit.
Cities Most Likely to DIY, by Percentage of Car-Care Searches
- Laredo, TX: 30%
- Lubbock, TX: 21%
- North Las Vegas, NV: 19%
- Enterprise, NV: 19%
- Bakersfield, CA: 18%
- Santa Ana, CA: 18%
- Stockton, CA: 18%
- Fresno, CA: 17%
- Cape Coral, FL: 17%
- Lincoln, NE: 17%
A small slice of searches falls into a third bucket entirely: full-blown car disasters, from spilled coffee to caked-in mud and stubborn stains. Laredo and Lubbock again top the list, a reminder that the same DIY-heavy cities are also the ones most likely to be hunting for a rescue.
Cities Most Likely to Face a Car Disaster, by Percentage of Car-Care Searches
- Laredo, TX: 6%
- Lubbock, TX: 6%
- Cape Coral, FL: 5%
- Enterprise, NV: 5%
- Lincoln, NE: 5%
- Newark, NJ: 5%
- North Las Vegas, NV: 5%
- Anaheim, CA: 5%
- Anchorage, AK: 5%
- Winston-Salem, NC: 5%
What a Clean Car Says About Your City
From Orlando's sun-baked streets to the salted roads of Saint Paul, the data shows that a clean ride is a point of pride coast to coast, even if every city gets there a little differently. Most drivers would rather put their vehicle in expert hands than tackle the grime themselves, and that's exactly where mobile detailing shines.

Methodology
We ranked the 100 most populous US cities, along with 10 major Canadian cities, by car-care search demand per capita. We pulled monthly search volume for 27 keywords spanning professional services (such as "mobile car detailing" and "ceramic coating"), do-it-yourself queries (such as "how to clean car interior"), and problem-solving searches (such as "remove pet hair from car"). Data pulled spanned from May 2023 to May 2026.
